Like I stated in my original message, sales and service :might be terrific in your area, but these are my experience in sunny :California. Sad. Let's just hope they here this at headquarters and fix it. :I blasted my account rep about stupid Informix license policies like :user-licenses tied to specific applications for eternity -- Watch out! :They never tell you about this stuff when you're buying new software! I didn't even comment on this. If your sales representative claimed somthing as stupid as this he is just plainly wrong. There is no way Informix can bind a database license to an application. At least not if the customer buys the database directly from Informix. Of course they could technically make you sign an agreement to this effect before you bought the engine, but they don't, not here anyway. When I or my customers buy an engine Informix isn't even told about what applications are going to be run on it. It's a database engine for storing whatever data the customer wants. What your sales representative have told you is a bunch of utter crap, and he must be fired immediately. If he isn't Bob F. should be told about such destructive behaviour. It will realy hurt Informix as it have done in your case. :I stated that Informix is giving me an incentive *not* to develop further :applications on Informix, I was told he would check into it. That was :several months ago... I can sure understand your frustration. In my case if I here something like that I take it as total crap and stop doing bussiness with that kind of sales representative. I simply tell him I don't want to talk more about it. Then I call up the next level boss, complain and tell him in nice words what has happened. If nothing is done I may go another level or two up. After a short while any similar problems I have had with Informix (very rare, one time with support where the european manager actually called me back) or other companies have allways been solved in very satisfacory manners. :It's sad and it's frustrating. Just hope you find some solution. They are allways located at the level of some higher up boss.
