And I never heard of timesten until you started talking about it. Querying oracle.com..... oh, it's something they bought. So you jest at IBM for buying informix...... How is that different than oracle buying timesten? Aren't they such a powerful omnipotent database vendor they don't need to buy other products? So IBM broadens their product portfolio...... they're such doofuses...... Oracle would never dream of doing that.... -----Original Message----- From: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:informix-list-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of DA Morgan Sent: Saturday, December 23, 2006 11:21 AM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Senior Oracle DBA now Learning Informix by Request Obnoxio The Clown wrote: > DA Morgan said: >> Obnoxio The Clown wrote: >>> DA Morgan said: >>>> How about TimesTen running one hundred times faster than that? >>> Yes, but TimesTen ISN'T Oracle's core database. >> And Informix isn't IBM's. ;-) > > It depends. If you mean: Then let me clarify my intent. I mean I don't see any marketing and sales efforts in on this continent. For example go to http://www.ibm.com In search put "database" On the first page of ten results 10 are for DB2 and one mentions Informix. Try the same thing on page and the next and the next. The next time Informix is mentioned is item 48. Everything else is DB2. -- Daniel A. I don't think IBM buying Informix a jest. I was seriously hoping they would embrace it and promote it. I consider it a sad day for database technology. TimesTen is different only in that Oracle is treating it with respect and it is going to become a player in the coming year or two. And if you don't believe me ... ask SAP. They are cozying up with IBM right now desperately trying to gain access to comparable technology. -- Daniel A.
