You will probably find that the 17MB is the TOTAL memory allocated to
the database server. This is not necessarily allocated to EACH process.
Use onstat -g seg to see how much memory is allocated. If allocation is
growing then it is possible that virtual segments are being created
dynamically. These should also show up in your message log.

The number of oninit (VP) processes is determined by your configuration.
Specifically check the number of CPU VPs and AIO VPs. You shouldn't have
more CPU VPs that physical CPUs. You should tune the number of AIO VPs
to the number of disks. If you are using KAIO you only need 1 or 2 AIO
VPs. Check for KAIO with onstat -g ioq.
