Well the original filesystem was EAFS... and now it's running on an
XFS filesystem in Linux. I would have assumed that this kind of thing
was abstracted away by the operating system so the filesystem didn't
matter?

That's certainly an option... the original database menuing system is
launched by typing:
"isql -s dbname -ur"
...and up pops a menu system that looks like it's partially stored in
the database itself (strings for the menu titles, etc). Do future
versions of Informix support this kind of built-in menuing system out
of the box? (it'd be nice to just import the DB, forms, etc. into a
native Linux version of Informix and be done with it).
What kind of cash are we talking about for a new version? (I'd seen
licenses for $11,000... the budget here is more like a few hundred
bucks for something able to support 3-5 simultaneous users).

Yes, certainly surprised that "dbaccess" even half-works on SuSE 10
with those kernel mods :)
Thanks for the info!

yes you may want to look at SE latest and isql.
i guess only thing you need is export your db and import it on linux;
then
recompile your forms and reports .
this most likely without change a letter of code....
Superboer.
