The max size of BUFFERS in IDS9.40FC7 at Solaris?
Posted in 2008
Topics: Platform-Specific Issues
BUFFERS 3600000 (pagesize is 2KB,SO is 7.2GB), but user command 'onstat -g seg'
,then class 'R' is only 4GB..Is it system limited 4GB??
From Administrators Reference V9.40.. BUFFERS limited is
536,870,912(Solaris)....So I don't know why it is....

Max segement size was hard coded to 4GB - if I recall it correctly this
got fixed for 64 bit version in some later version
(10.00.FC.dont_remember_exact_fixpack )
Your system still uses 7.2 GB BUFFERS , the remainder is spread across
virtual segements.
Hi,
I'm not sure but I think I read that IDS is limited by SOLARIS 8 about max
contigous memory size it can assing to an instance. it is 4G.
I show you my instance values (ids 9.40fc9 on SOLARIS 8), if you check it, in
spite of I have assigned 8G to my V portion, it divides in two portions.
And if you check my kernel parameter I try to assign a shmax fo 8G and it
doesn't work.
BUFFERS 1000000 # Maximum number of shared buffers
SHMVIRTSIZE 8000000 # initial virtual shared memory segment size
and my onstat -g output:
Segment Summary:
id key addr size ovhd class blkused blkfree
4505 1381386241 10a000000 2342518784 494296 R 571850 54
4506 1381386242 195a00000 4278190080 131216 V 932681 111799
4507 1381386243 294a00000 3914334208 120112 V 663 954985
Total: - - 10535043072 - - 1505194 1066838
kernel parameters:
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=8589934592
set semsys:seminfo_semmap=64
set semsys:seminfo_semmni=4096
set semsys:seminfo_semmns=4096
set semsys:seminfo_semmnu=4096
set semsys:seminfo_semume=64
set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=500
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=100
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=500
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=100
That is means the maxsize of share memory segment is limited to 4GB... OK,Thanks all!
