No! This would result in longer checkpoints.
All I know 300 secs is ideal for normal OLTP-Systems.
You could think about decreasing, but this generates an overhead due
to the Physical-Log-Flushing. Have a look on the disk-workload at
checkpoint.
Use both detailed iostat (I think its -x) and onstat as David Williams
mentioned earlier.
Only diskless databases are fast ;-)
