Looking for a label printer
Posted in 1995
Hello World! Is anyone using a label printer attached to a Unix box? I'm looking for a straight forward printer which will attach to either a serial port or run off a TCP/IP network. It should have a couple of nice fonts, barcode printing abilities, etc. It will be running in a cush non-industrial environment and need only print a few labels an hour. Just FYI, this printer is needed by an application being ported from DOS to Unix. Under DOS, they had one of those cheapo Seiko label printers which required a DOS TSR program to run. Very tough to drive from a Unix box when there is no Unix version of the driver and the driver insists on a direct serial connection. The customer would like to find a more accessible version of the same thing. They are, however, prepared to bite the bullet and buy one of the fancy $1,500 jobs if absolutely necessary. --Craig (craig@chemistry.utah.edu)
