I have: 1) Informix Workgroup 7.22 :under Windows NT 4.0 on Dual PPro 200MHz, 128Mb RAM, AMI RAID with FW :HDD; 2) Informix OnLine DS 7.22 under SCO 5.0 on the similar computer; 3) :Informix SE 5.0 on computer point 2) 4) Informix OnLine under HP-UX 10.20 :on HP 900 D210 server 100MHz PA-RISC, 64Mb RAM, SCSI SE HDD (later will :be upgrated to 128Mb RAM, FW SCSI HDD) 5) Informix SE 5.0 on computer :point 4) : :In first I am interested in the test that measure correlation between :simultaneous users requests and server load. I found that SCO ( I try on :SCO OpenServer 3 with 64Mb RAM and PPro 200Mhz and AMI RAID ) with more :then 10 users intensively working is more loaded and slower that HP with :64Mb RAM and simple SCSI SE HDD. There is a lot of OS and database tuning you will have to do to make a fair comparison. Particularly with OnLine the default (or rather little tuned) setup may easily favor one OS/HW over another. Also you say in your list of databases and HW that you have SCO 5.0 while you said you have tried on SCO OpenServer 3. SCO 5.x is normally faster and easier to tune, particularly for a larger number of users. Of course you have to make sure that there is no paging going on on whatever platform you are using as that could schew the results significantly. Also the raid solution you are using on SCO may slow down the database if you are using RAID 5. This raid level often results in slower write access. To compare with machines without raid you should set up your disk controller to not use any raid level at all (simply make the disks available as individual plain disks). Also 300 MHz Pentium machines are now available at much the same price as the 200 MHz so that might be a better platform for the testing. You have dual processor machines, and should then be carefull about setting of the multiprocessor related variables in the Informix configuration file. Setting up Informix to use multiple CPUs on a 2 CPU machine may be slower than using only one for the database. When you do get reasonable results from these tests I would love to here about them.
