Onarchive ------to-----> Ontape
Posted in 1997
Hi,
Currently we are doing our Logical Log backups and Archives using Onarchive,
but we are facing some difficulties with it, like:-
1. onautovop process dies without any reason. so we have a cron job that
executes every 20min to check whether autovop process is running, If
not start it.
2. some times logs used to fill up, and onautovop process won't start.
even after setting LBU_PRESERVE = 1 in our onconfig file.
3. As we are going to have 46 servers it would be difficult to make sure all
logtapes are defined with proper volumes and autovop is backing up
logfiles
properly.
4. When logfiles get filled up, it is quiet messy to create emergency
log backup, because Onarchive will try to access arc* tables from
sysmaster
which it won't be able to do.
5. If we use ontape we need not be bothered about oncatlgr and onautovop
process.
Due to the some of the above cited reasons we are planning to change our
logical log backups and archives to Ontape as it is simple and is more
reliable.
I would like to know if anybody has got ready made scripts using "ontape -a"
to backup logical logs and I would appreciate if you archive script with
"Ontape -s -L 0".
