Re: Upgrading to v7.2 ?

I ran into a similiar problem on a compaq system pro with 80MB ram and dual 486's. We were running out memory causing swapping. The problem was our 4gl programs (taking from about 1.5MB of memory per user to about 3.5MB). If your programs are large and you have alot of users this could be a problem. Here is a shell script that I used to determine the amount of memory each user was using on our system (SCO 3.2v4.2) MEM=0 if [ -n "$1" ] then for x in `ps -l -u$1|cut -c49-53|grep -v "SZ"` do MEM=`expr $MEM + $x` done echo $1" is using "$MEM" Kilobytes of memory" else MTOTMEM=0 for z in `who|cut -c1-10|sort|uniq|grep -v root` do MEM=0 for x in `ps -l -u$z|cut -c49-53|grep -v "SZ"` do MEM=`expr $MEM + $x` done echo $z" is using "$MEM" Kilobytes of memory" MTOTMEM=`expr $MTOTMEM + $MEM` done echo "Total memory being used is "$MTOTMEM" Kilobytes (excluding root, mmdf)" fi Hope this helps. > We currently have v5 of informix on a compaq prosignia unix/sco server > with 56MB ram, 3GB drive and a pentium overdrive chip. > > Will this be sufficient if we upgrade to v7.2 of informix? > Martin > >
