Re: DBEXPORT and UPDATE STATISTICS
Posted in 1993
Dear Everybody,
Several people have commented (very gently, and thank you for being careful
of my ever so delicate feelings;-) that dbexport is unlikely to do UPDATE
STATISTICS on any of several grounds -- such as not being able to find the
string 'update statistics' in the executable or it doesn't sound like the
sort of thing we'd do.
As of version 5.01, at any rate, I can confirm that dbexport does not do
UPDATE STATISTICS; I used a monitor program to log all the information whichtraversed between dbexport and the engine, and update statistics did not occur.
However, Bug 10428 has the description:
DBEXPORT PERFORMS UPDATE STATISTICS UNNECESSARILY
dbexport update statistics (on the database) This is not
required, we only require an accurate count of the number of
rows. On large databases this produces large delays
The bug was coded in 5.00.UC1A8 which means all 5.0x versions in the field
should have the fix. All 4.1x versions probably still have this bug, but I
haven't checked to see whether 4.11 or 4.12 has the code change in place.
Wishing everybody a very Happy Christmas and an enjoyable and not too
controversial New Year...
Yours festively,
