INFORMIX SELECTED AS DATABASE AND TOOLS SUPPLIER FOR UNITED KINGDOM'S ROYAL AIR FORCE MENLO PARK, Calif. (Sept. 22, 1994) -- Informix Software, Inc., (NASDAQ: IFMX) the leading provider of parallel processing database technology, today announced that IBM, the Prime Systems Integrator for the United Kingdom Royal Air Force (RAF) ten-year Logistics Information Technology Strategy (LITS) program, has chosen Informix as the database and tools supplier for the program. The decision supersedes an earlier decision to use INGRES technology from Computer Associates. The LITS program, which includes principal subcontractors, Coopers and Lybrand, Logica, Logistics Support Consultants, Northern Telecom and Paradigm Systems Technology, will be based on the INFORMIX(R)-OnLine Dynamic Server(TM) Version 7.0 parallel RDBMS. The LITS program will create a complete system to support all of the Supply and Engineering communities in the RAF. LITS will assist the newly-formed Logistic Command unit to provide high quality, responsive operational support at a lower cost. IBM will coordinate the first installation of the infrastructure and provide the first phase of the integrated application suite. The first installation will include 8,000 workstations, local servers and a global data center. The system will be based on INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server and IBM RISC System 6000 processors. Recent Informix UK Defense Wins Recently Informix was named the database of choice to develop and implement the RAF's Warehousing and Transport Management System (WTMS). Informix products, including INFORMIX-OnLine/Secure and its tools are being used to manage stock housed in a complex warehousing and distribution system. Informix and Siemens Nixdorf Information Systems were selected following an extensive evaluation process and will be implementing the new system in conjunction with Dallas Software and SISI. Informix was also named as the preferred database and tools provider for all procurements in support of Royal Navy non-operational management, logistics and personnel systems worldwide. The seven-year contract, which includes a provision for a further seven years' support of products, was awarded under the Royal Navy's Sector Information Systems Strategy. Early projects that may benefit from the contract include the UPKEEP project, part of the Strategic NLIS (Naval Logistics Information Systems Strategy) program.
