You state that you have a single 1GB drive, with a decent RDBMS *and* a network OS - StarGROUP. My best suggestion is to get more SCSI Host Adapters and Drives, and to make sure that you have your database logs, indices, and tables on distinct drives from each other. Drive A would have the logs from the table on B and C would have the index...you can round-robin so A would have every three tables every other third index, etc. It is cruel to have the head of the drive move once it has done its seek, just to get an index... ;) At the least, add a cheapo SCSI drive as c0t1d0s0 and put the logs and index on that drive; UNIX may be multi-tasking, but a single drive cannot do that. Also, check on 'sar' for memory usage.. you can't have enough.... p.s., I had a 23GB Informix database running just fine with 100 users on a two CPU machine, but I had a full complement of HBA's and drives... -- +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Carlo Milono: cmilono@netcom.com | | "We would rather die in our dread, than climb the cross of the moment, | | and let our illusions die." - Auden | | | |PGP 2.6 Information | |pub I.D.:6E69E915 <cmilono@netcom.com> | |Key fingerprint = 07 13 80 93 C3 76 6B 34 6D FD A9 43 3B DA D1 AE | | Send Email for Public Key | +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+
