RE: Connection Manager and I4GL
Posted in 2009
Sigh. KISS applies. 4GL apps are client/server. You may want to consider some sort of DNS / host mapping solution. That is, your application connects to the server via hostname. If the heart beat of the host goes down, your DNS system catches the alert and the secondary's IP address is given instead of the primary when the DNS is queried to get the IP address of the host. (Assuming that the local client isn't caching the ip address so it doesn't do a DNS lookup.) At least that's the theory and its OS independent. Your users will lose their last transaction no matter what since the cursors go away with the loss of connection. Doesn't Veritas (now Symantec) have something similar to this concept? -G > Date: Fri, 14 Aug 2009 13:57:36 +0100 > Subject: Re: Connection Manager and I4GL > From: smiley73@googlemail.com > To: goddai01@hotmail.co.uk > CC: informix-list@iiug.org > > 2009/8/14 Ian Goddard <goddai01@hotmail.co.uk>: > > Clive Eisen wrote: > >> On 14/08/2009 12:25, Ian Goddard wrote: > >> > >>> As an alternative you could handle this through the IP addresses.
