It's actually not too difficult, but you have to follow certain steps:
1) Make sure there is an entry for "sqlexec" in the services file. The
port number doesn't matter much, as long as it is not a privileged
number (<= 1024) and it doesn't conflict with any other services.
Of course, the number must be the same on both machines.
2) Access control follows the standard Unix network access control
mechanism. Informix uses the ".rhosts" file (or even worse,
"/etc/hosts.equiv" :-( ) for authentication. The same user id must
exist on both machines, and the remote user must have an entry in
the local .rhosts file. You can check the correctness of the entry
by trying an rlogin from the remote machine. If no password is re-
quired, then you're all set.
3) Obviously, you already know how to start the sqlexecd daemon.
4) Now you can access a remote database either by typing in the
fully qualified pathname:
dbaccess //remote_machine/database/directory/dbname
or by setting DBPATH (example for bourne shell):
DBPATH=//remote_machine/database/directory export DBPATH
dbaccess dbname
Let me know if you still have problems. Hope this helps,
Richard
