Performance Issues w/SE & SCO UNIX

We are running SCO UNIX Openserver 5.0.5 with Informix SE on a Dell
Poweredge 2300 Pentium II 400.
We are having terrible performance issues that occur during the
accessesing of large reports.
Running sar -u 1 results:
17:10:07 %usr %sys %wio %idle (-u)
17:10:08 64 36 0 0
If anyone has had experience with Informix SE in this particular
environment, I would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,
Joe Feldman
Some questions to help other people help your performance issues: What release of Informix SE? Did you run update statistics as recommended in the release notes? What type of application? Custom made? Do you have indexes on the tables used by the reports? What type of disk array do you have? Are all tables on the same disk as the OS? -- --------------------------------------------------------- Steven Hauser email: hause011@tc.umn.edu URL: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~hause011 ---------------------------------------------------------
4GL reports that do their own sorting are PIGS. Change the SQL to use
an ORDER BY to sort the rows in the engine and in the REPORT module
use no ORDER BY or make it an ORDER BY ... EXTERNAL indicating that the
rows are already sorted. This will be a big help.
