Sizing/Configuration
Posted in 1993
Hello all! There was a discussion going on within the walls of our office the other day about how to plan/size systems for implementation of Informix databases and products. Some of these considerations include 3-rd party software for which we are a VAR, but most especially the Informix products. What came to light is that everyone seems to have a "rule of thumb" for sizing, but no one could give us any formulas for calculating the amounts of memory/disk space/etc one needed for a successful implementation. What's even scarier is that we checked with the companies from whom we are reselling, and we even checked with Informix...no one could really give us more than just the SWAG-system for sizing systems appropriately. Can anyone out in net-land help? Everyone we spoke with agrees it should be done, but no one seems to have come up with a methodology for sizing systems to adequately serve users' needs. Thanks already! If there's enough response/interest, I'll be happy to summarize and post. - Corinne ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- --- ---- - Corinne Gregory (corinne@fdsi1.ocsg.com) - - - - - Mgmt.
