I am trying to write a stored procedure that inserts some data into a table where the first field is a serial number. I want to return the serial number of this inserted field as the result. I've previously done this from C++ using ESQL/C, picking up the value from sqlca.sqlerrd[1] after doing the insert. But I can't figure how to do this in procedural SQL. I've trawled the manuals for a while but can't track down anything that sheds any light on this. I'm not very familiar with all the terminology that is used in the manuals so it might simply be that I am failing to look up the appropriate thing in the index, but basically I am stumped. Any help / pointers to manual will be welcome. Please mail me personally as well as post to the group as I don't always get this news. Thanks.
