Very Slow speed/Large swapfile using VB5/DataDirector executable

Data Director Question We are currently using data-director v 3.5 to develop on Visual Basic 5 Enterprise Edition connecting to an Informix Openlink V 7.0 server. Our problem is that in the design environment of VB the project loads in a matter of seconds whilst the executable takes several minutes to load. After further inspection of the problem we have found that a Windows (95) swapfile is being created of sizes exceeding 400 Mb whilst in the VB design environment the swapfile is around 40 Mb. We believe the problem is linked to using the data director Navigation controls of which we have around 30 - 40 on the forms as when we delete these the executeable then runs extremely quickly. Has anybody else experienced this problem whilst developing with Data Director. More importantly does anyone have a solution to this as it is making our executeable unusable. Hi, It sounds as though you're using some form of client-side cursors; you should check through the properties on your connection objects to see whether it's possible to use server-side cursors instead. Similarly you might find there to be an improvement if you change your "snapshot"s into "dynaset"s. What I think is happening is that with client-side cursors and a snapshot model, VB is retrieving all the data across to the client and doing its own cursor processing on it. If you use OpenLink's keyset-driven cursors you'll benefit from having everything happening on the server. HTH!
