New Era app as background process...
Posted in 1996
I am trying to run a simple application compiled to c-code from New Era for Motif 1.01 This application requires no user input and produces a report as output. It consists of 1 4gl module in the app builder, and opens a database connection, runs some sql, and outputs to a report (a file on the file system). Running HPUX 10.01. Only wierd piece is a call to the RUN statement that executes a shell script to e-mail the file to about 50 people. This is the last statement before the end main. This program runs fine in the background from an x-term, but root reports a 'CAN'T OPEN DISPLAY' error when running from cron. Is there a compiler option to not require a display??? Is this possible??? Seems so simple, but can't get it... Tech support is researching and I will post their reply, but I can't wait a week. Any help would be appreciated!!!! Thanks in advance.
