IFX_LARGE_PAGES (AIX)

IDS 11.5.FC5, AIX 5.3 The information listed below is listed TWICE on consecutive pages within the Performance Tuning Manual, page 72-73: On AIX and Solaris systems that support large pages, the IFX_LARGE_PAGES environment variable can enable the use of large pages for non-message shared memory segments that are locked in physical memory. If large pages have been configured by operating system commands and the RESIDENT configuration parameter specifies that some or all of the resident and virtual portions of shared memory are locked in physical memory, Dynamic Server will use large pages for the corresponding shared memory segments, provided sufficient large pages are available. The use of large pages can offer significant performance benefits in large memory configurations. Has anyone implemented this feature? What is/were your experiences with it? What value is IFX_LARGE_PAGES set to in order to enable the use of the large pages? Thanks in advance for your assistance. I turned it on at one Sun site and it didn't work until some kernel settings were changed. No report as to performance or system overhead differences. Art Art S.
