That depends on which Linux release you have. For some you need nothing.
For others, using the egcs compiler, you need the gcc compiler RPMS.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS post your configuration, even if it seems irrelevant and
even if you think you are posting too much and wasting bandwidth.
Normally it wastes far less than getting and replying to 30 messages and
postings telling you to post your configuration! This is not just for
Howard. There have been too many posts without enough details lately.
PLEASE PLEASE everyone post as much information as possible (no we do not
need to see the last 6 months of your online message log, or any part
thereof for a question like this, but if you are having a runtime or start
up problem a few dozen entries cannot hurt!). Your hardware platform, OS
and version, Informix engine class (IDS, OL, SE) and version (including
maintenance levels, as 7.31UC2-2 NOT "7"), any tools you are using
INCLUDING versions, onconfig file if you are having a startup or
performance problem, message log and/or af. files if you have had a crash
you do not understand, appropriate onstat output if you know what options
will point up your problem (if not at least: -p, -d, -F, -R, -m, -g glo,
-g seg and if disk or performance related add: -D, -g iov, -g iof, -g ioq).
Also do not:
o Post HTML - many of us use UNIX based text only mailers
o Post BASE64 encoded messages
Try, as far as it is possible, to:
o Post in English - this is not chauvinism, most of us are English
speaking and so you will take advantage of the most resourses. If one
does not speak English, post whatever you have to, we'll give it a try.
o Post in Latin/Roman characters - like above, posting in Cyrillic,
Chinese, or Japanese character reduces your audience.
Sorry you caught this diatribe, Howard, but periodically we have to remind
newcomers how to help us to best help them.

Sorry for note posting more ....
Config :
Redhat 6.0 ( Kernel as delivered on distrib )
IDS V7.30.UC7
4GL V7.20.UD1
RDS V7.20.UD1
I "thought" this required glibc libraries and these have been installed from
rpm.
Problem occurs on even a 4 line main, display "Arrrghh", end main - compiles
OK but gives immediate segmentation fault.
Hope you can help.
Regards
Howard

Download the .UD7 versions instead. >I "thought" this required glibc libraries and these have been installed from >rpm. You can check to see if glibc is already installed -- 2.1.1 probably is. BUT, you need the older version of the libraries and the compiler. Check Dejanews for my posting of a few weeks ago where I list the specific backward-compatibility packages needed and the INFORMIXC setting you should use. >Problem occurs on even a 4 line main, display "Arrrghh", end main - compiles >OK but gives immediate segmentation fault. Right, because 4GL 7.20.* won't run on Red Hat 6.0 without the backward- compatibility packages. -- Alan Denney yosemite at accesscom.com "Leave the gun. Take the cannolis."
