Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
The poster asked whether an ON-Bar backup taken on one UNIX box (AIX 5.2, IDS 9.4 FC6) could be restored onto a second machine, assuming identical OS, IDS version and raw device names. Several respondents, including Art Kagel and DBAs using ON-Bar with TSM as the storage manager, confirmed it works and that they do such cross-machine restores routinely; one added that chunk names can be renamed during the restore if needed. The poster thanked them, so the question was answered affirmatively with no problems reported.

Hi everyone. Is it possible to take an onbar backup tape from a UNIX machine A
and restore to unix machine B? If the unix OS's are the same, the raw device
names are the same, the IDS versions are the same, etc? I know simple
question. But I may need to do this with a 9.4 FC6 informix database on an AIX
5.2 unix machine. Thanks
Yes.

yes this is possible ... I do this on a regular basis ... using onbar and
TSM as the storage manager ...

Yes, performed this several times using TSM and onbar. If needed you can
rename chunk names.
