Thanks Johnathan yup you're right, they just need to read it out in a select statement ( against another field ). Thanks for the advice. From what I've been reading up tonight I'll make sbspace and use put clause. It sounds like the developers should use an esql/c routine to estimate the blob size and provide that info to the insert statement so the engine will try to make a single extent for the size of the blob.
