LVARCHAR in SQL (Error -999)
Posted in 2005
Topics: Data Types & Schema Design
Hi,
I have two database RRADMINDB and RRRPDB, both have table "emMessageTemplates"
which includes a LVARCHAR column - "messagetext". What I want is to copy the
value of this column from RRADMINDB:emMessageTemplates to
RRRPDB:emMessageTemplates. In database RRRPDB, below SQL doesn't work:
insert into emMessageTemplates (messagetext)
select messagetext from RRADMINDB:emMessageTemplates;Error is : "SQL Error (-999): Not implemented yet.".
How can I walk around this error?
Thanks in advance,
Michael Wei

PTS FEA 159230 : SUPPORT INTERNAL UDTS SUCH AS BOOLEAN, LVARCHAR AND
EXPLICITLY CAST TRUE UDTS ACROSS DATABASES
1. Allow select, update, insert, delete operations on internal UDTs
such as boolean, lvarchar across databases.
2. Allow cross-database execution (explicit and implicit) of UDRs
with internal UDT parameters/return types.
3. Allow the above operations (1. & 2.) on true UDTs explicitly cast
to built-in standard sql types or internal UDTs
This feature is available in 10.00.xCx

Hi,
This restriction of lvarchar references across databases on same server=
has
been removed in IDS Version 10.
One possible work around for lower versions would be to create another
table on the source database using char instead of lvarchar type.
Subsequently use this new table for cross-database insert.
database RRADMINDB;
create table newemMessageTemplates(messagetext char(sizeoflvarcharcolum=n));
insert into newemMessageTemplates
select messagetext from emMessageTemplates;
database RRRPDB;
insert into emMessageTemplates (messagetext)select TRIM(messagetext) from RRADMINDB:newemMessageTemplates;
Thanks,

Hi,
You must write a Stored procedure to acomplish that,
because informix cannot query this data types between databases.
You must cast that datatype to char.
A simple example is:
In a database A:
Create funcion spsenddata()
Returning char(1000)
--this variable is define with max lvarchar value...
Define lvalue char(1000);
Foreach
Select fiellvarchar
into lvalue
from yourtable
return lvalue with resume;
End foreach;
End function
In database B:
Execute function A:spsenddata();--If you run this function in a dbaccess you'll receive full table from
database A,
--or you can specify a foreach of that stored procedure in this
database.
--At the end you must implement this for your requeriments.
I hope you find this helpful
Regards.
