I have problems with it. I installed on one machine RH6.0 with shadow password system and on the other without. I can connect to the system WITH shadow password system only without specifying pasword!!!! The other sistem works as it should. Very strange. I don't know wheter I instaled system o.k. or is this just RH6.0/IDS7.30 bug. > > HOWEVER, other 2.2-based Linuxes could be more problematic. IDS/LE was supposed to have shadow passwords supported, but there was a botch. You'll be OK if you connect as the *same* user on the other machine and have .rhosts or hosts.equiv identify that host as "friendly", but if you want to CONNECT TO '<foreign server>' USER '<username>', *that* won't work in the current 7.30.UC* releases. But it's unrelated to the 5.2 vs. 6.0 issue. You can install 5.2 or 6.0 with or without shadowing, and you can convert a shadowing machine to just use /etc/passwd (and avoid this bug) using the pwunconv utility. -- Alan Denney yosemite at accesscom.com "Controlled flight into terrain is usually an error on someone's part." -- National Transportation Safety Board member George Black, on "Today", 8/7/97
