Applying logical logs
Posted in 1998
I have a production server in site A, and a contingency server at site B
some miles away. Each night I copy an archive of the production server
to site B and restore it.
Using onarchive/ondatartr, the database server at site B is in "Fast
Recovery" mode at the end of the restore. I leave it like this, because
it retains the flexibility to (a) bring it online if it's needed or (b)
copy subsequent log back-ups to site B use ondatartr to apply these,
thus bring the database server up-to-date.
I believe that you can't to this with ontape; the archive restore and
log roll-forward must be done in the same operation.
Am I right? It makes a difference because the database server is so
large that it takes over an hour to restore.
Thanks
