ontape and onunload on a RSS Secondary

Good morning IIUG family,
Quick question for those who have a bit more experience with RSS secondaries
than I do. Context: My HDR Primary is so busy 24 x 7 x 365 with users and
after-hours cron-jobs processing, that performing ontapes backups and
onunloads on the secondary has become critical because of heavy usage. I am
currently unable to use either ontape or onunload on my HDR Read-only
secondary. My question: After converting my HDR Read-only Secondary to an RSS
secondary, will I able to perform an "ontape -s -L 0" full backup as well as
onunloads of databases from that RSS secondary?
Thanks for any advice.

Jonathan:
The only kind of archives that you can do on ANY secondary server is an
external archive from an RSS secondary. You cannot use ontape or onbar or
onunload from a secondary server of any type.
If that is important to you, then go to IBM's Request For Enhancement (RFE)
pages and put in an RFE or add your vote to an existing one (though I did
not find this one when I looked):

If you do create an RFE, post the description or keywords here so others
who are interested can vote for it.

Art,
As always, thank-you for your wisdom and advice. I assume means an external
archive means using external tables?
I created an RFE this morning. I hope everyone will submit a vote. IBM will
listen to its Informix User community if we show them our interest in this
topic. The RFE # is 45728. You can search on "ontape" or "onbar" keywords.
We'll see what IBM does with it.
Thank-you again Art.

External Archive is when you freeze the server with onmode -c block, copy
the chunks or break mirrors, then release the server with onmode -c
unblock. If you've broken mirrors you would copy the mirror disks then
reestablish the mirroring and let them catch up with the mains. You can do
that with an RSS secondary. See the Backup and Restore Guide for details
and gotchas.
