This is almost as good, I think. Weeeellll=85. Pete tried it and was polite enough to inform me privately that it doesn't work. I even tried to be wise guy and stop violations for the table. I was then able to alter table as above. However, when I tried to restart violations for the table, it complained that the tables it wanted to create already exist. Probably has something to do with some kind of locks. OK, I can live with that. But why can't the violation & diagnostic tables exist already? (Come to think of it, life goes on without that feature as well...) When I create a constraint, the engine is willing to use an existing index. I can plunk two identical tables into one by declaring them to be fragments of the same table. Informix has the logic to use an existing structure for use in a new structure. It is so logical to use an existing table as a diagnostic table if it is properly layed out. But nooOOOOOOOOooooo! >;) -- Jake (Never thought I'd be mimicking John Belushi.
