I've been using the Mac version of DataLink for over 2 years now. If you are just starting out, I would strongly suggest that you find another product. From my own experience and the collected opinions of other DataLinkers I've spoken with, DataLink is not the best-written application. I understand that Informix is only maintaining DataLink calls in HyperScript Tools for legacy users. I've seen specs on writing external 'C' functions to be called from within Wingz or HyperScript, but not on writing 'C' functions to call built-in HyperScript routines. If you're using Wingz or HyperScript, upgrade to HyperScript Tools (if you can) and take advantage of HyperScript SQL, which appears to be much better and faster than DataLink. If you are looking for a "generic" library of SQL routines, you should have a few alternatives (what platform?). If you want to stretch your mileage with DataLink, I wish you the best of luck! I became very frustrated with DataLink last year when I realized it doesn't give you HyperScript commands for many of the functions provided in the DataLink menu (e.g. Switch Databases). If you look at the DataLink scripts with a file editor you should be able to see a lot of undocumented lower-level function calls. Tech support offered no guarantees when I asked about using these hidden calls.
