On Solaris, you can compile with two extra options on the link command line: -R$INFORMIXDIR/lib -R$INFORMIXDIR/lib/esql This tells the system to look for the ESQL/C libraries in these locations at run-time -- KD_RUN_PATH may also be used, I think. Whether this applies to Linux is another matter, but it is worth investigating at least.
