Re: MS Access -> Informix
Posted in 1999
I just started with Informix about 2 months ago after 5 years with Sybase/SQL Server and Oracle. The training classes are a must! I took the Sys-Admin, Perf Tuning and Managing and Optimizing. Informix (like most other Unix based databases) is just something that you cant or are going to have a hard time teaching yourself. There are so many, buts and ifs it is crazy. Actually knowing Access will not do you any good what so ever, most likely will even be a detriment. Informix is setup completely different from all other vendors in their approach to the engine that houses the data. I will be UN-learning SQL Server 6.5 / 7 and Oracle 7.3 for a few more months probably. Have to say it is really fast if you know what you are doing. So is a Ferrari but it is much easy to work on a Chevette. check out the load and unload commands, and High Performance Loader. That is about it for tools. ODBC is a waste of time for migration of any volume of data. -- jarrodr [at] province [dot] com Patrik Nilsson wrote in message <37130551@news.sto.telegate.se>... >Howdy all! > >I've never worked with Informix before and are now up to migrating a MS >Access DB to Informix.
