ibm data studio 1.1.1
Posted in 2008
Summary
A user asked whether IBM Data Studio 1.1.1 works usefully with IDS 9.4/11, saying he couldn't even get a database connection configured on Win2k. Replies didn't address the connection problem directly; instead they described the tool's current usefulness with Informix: running queries, editing data, DDL work, generating Web Services, and PureQuery testing, while noting it doesn't replace Server Studio for admin and that richer features await newer server versions. No fix for the connection issue is recorded.

Has anyone tried IBM Data Studio 1.1.1 with IDS 9.4 or IDS 11 ?
I have it installed on win2k with IDS 9.4 .
I just want to do queries and perhaps test stored procs/functions.
I have not yet gotten it configured to even make a connection to a database.
Has anyone found this tool to be useful with Informix?

This tool will be very useful for Informix in the future. Currently I'd say you
won't do anything with it that you can't do with other tools... But then
again, it's free.
I really hope to see an update to it as soon as IDS 11.50 is out.
Things you can do with it and Informix:
. Run queries
. Edit data (I find it nice to use it as a kind of iSQL forms...)
. Do DDL stuff...
. Generate Web Services
. ???
It's not much currently, but I think you should keep an eye on it...
Some of the stuff it will be able to do require server side support. So before
being able to do this things we'll have to wait for new features in the server.

We use Data Studio w/ Cheetah 1 (v11.10).
It is a nice tool for some operation.
It does not replace ServerStudio for advanced (or even basic) admin. We use
it for Web Services, basic data manipulation, SQL testing... We are
currently testing / implementing PureQuery.
