Ed, The "ifmxld" stands for "informix license daemon". Informix tried a little experiment starting (and ending I think) with version 5.01 Online. They created a daemon that was supposed to run all the time and make sure that you weren't violating your licenses. When you install the system, it asks you whether you wish to install this daemon. There was so many problems with the way it worked that Informix discontinued this idea, and had folks install without it. I know that it's not in 5.00, is in 5.01 and I'm not sure when it was fully discontinued, so it might be in some 5.02 versions. Files like the ifmxld.dat were there to support the daemon.
