INFORMIX A WINNING TICKET FOR TELE-CHARGE SYSTEMS Leading Ticketing Organization Selects OnLine Dynamic Server for Mission-Critical Ticketing Application MENLO PARK, Calif. (May 15, 1995) -- Informix Software, Inc., (NASDAQ: IFMX) the leading provider of parallel processing database technology, today announced that Tele-charge Systems, the second largest provider of electronic ticketing services in the U.S., has selected INFORMIX(R)-OnLine Dynamic Server(TM) and Digital Equipment Corp. Alpha hardware to run its mission-critical on-line ticketing application. Tele-charge Systems will provide the enabling technology for over $500 million in theater, concert, and sporting event ticket sales this year. The company is moving its ticketing applications from a proprietary mainframe environment to a client/server architecture, taking full advantage of technology and performance that was not available in the past. Tele-charge selected OnLine Dynamic Server because it is the only database that provides the performance, scalability and high availability required to handle the high volume demands of online ticket selling. "We selected OnLine Dynamic Server because its performance and scalability far exceeded the current capabilities of Oracle and Sybase," said David Andrews, director of operations at Tele-charge Systems. "In addition to its superior performance, we selected Informix database products because they are available today." Informix-based System Helps Tele-charge Streamline Customer Service Tele-charge, a division of The Shubert Organization, provides ticketing services for the majority of Broadway and off-Broadway theaters as well as for event centers in several states. The company has an inventory of more than 20 million seats for events available at any given time and a customer database of 1.9 million orders. When a new Broadway show or concert headliner is unveiled, there may be up to 1,000 users at 100 sites (including box offices, phone centers, and remote outlets) searching Tele-charges database for best available seating. Requests for the best available seats at any point in time must be managed by a centralized system that can sustain maximum performance (handling maximum throughput and network traffic) with reliability, accuracy and speed. OnLine Dynamic Server's enormous performance advantage was largely due to Informix's next generation, multithreaded parallel processing database architecture, Dynamic Scalable Architecture (DSA). In order to handle larger databases with improved processing performance, DSA was designed to provide parallel processing as a core capability. This core, internal parallelism enables OnLine Dynamic Server to achieve superior performance by processing database tasks in parallel and maximizing the use of multiprocessor hardware. The ticketing application will also back up every transaction using OnLine Dynamic Servers data replication feature because of the mission-critical nature of on-line ticketing. "Informix is pleased to deliver the database technology that will enable Tele-charge to enhance its customer service and efficiency," said Frank Bergandi, vice president, North America at Informix. " OnLine Dynamic Server, with its core parallelism, will meet Tele-charges mission-critical needs for high performance, scalability, functionality and fault tolerance."
