Dear All, We migrated from 4gl to New Era one year ago, and you all know what kind of situation we are facing. My question is what is next step we can go? D4GL? Data Director for VB? Java + JDBC? or any other suggestions? We are looking for a combination of front end development tools that will last long and is web enabled. Any good or bed experiences are very much appreciated. Thank all of you in advance, Best Regards, Kenneth dong@sim.edu.sg
We replaced New Era over two years ago with IBM's VisualAge For Smalltalk at my recommendation/instigation/rebellion. People are very happy with the results. VAST can be used to build 2-tier, n-tier, thin client, and web based applications. It can do CORBA, RMI, COM/DCOM, HTML. It is portable across Windows 3.1/95/98/NT, OS/2, AIX, Solaris, and HP/UX. In short, it's a very powerful cross platform and pure OO tool, and not a buggy, unstable, and half-baked mongrel like the one it replaced.
