11.50 : Disk almost full --> What to do?

Hi to all, my production datadbs is almost full, it's a matter of 2 or 3 months., the instance is replicated using HDR, so i'm thinking what is the best solution : 1 - to add space ? so i must also add space to the HDR Server, what to to then ? 2- to compress hugh tables , about 20 tables, but i'm afraid if compressing those tables decrease the applications performance. thanks in advance for your advices

When you add the chunk on the primary the primary will tell the secondary to do the same when it ships over the log buffer that contains the add-chunk log entry. > 2- to compress hugh tables , about 20 tables, but i'm afraid if compressing > those tables decrease the applications performance. > Do you have a licensed copy of COMPRESSION? This is a separate for-charge feature that you have to pay extra to use (unless you have purchased the v11.70 Ultimate Edition with Informix Warehouse Accelerator or the new v12.10 Advanced Enterprise Edition in which case it is included). This feature is not included in the normal Growth/Workgroup or Ultimate/Enterprise editions of the engine. Using it without a license will leave you open to having to pay back licensing for it later if you are audited by IBM! That said, if you are 'legal', compression will actually improve performance for nearly every query and operation. Inserts are the operation most commonly affected adversely but even that is rare since the compression reduces the IO load. The major exceptions are when your CPUs are frequently pinned to near 100% utilization since compression requires CPU cycles to work. > > thanks in advance for your advices > > > > ******************************************************************************* > Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in the discussion forum. > > --001a11c36702cf888c04db46bbe7
You can buy the Informix storage optimization feature (it´s an optional license) and enable it on your bigger tables. Our Informix technology is not called "compression", because it never downgrade performance. At least (in worst case) you will have the same previous performance. Average compression ratio, in text databases (no binary data) should be around 70% It can save your systems. If you have any doubt, just ask. Regards. yes i understand what to do for the primary and hdr, i must see with the systems team if they can add this space on both prim and hdr. but i m really interested with the compression, and yes i have the 11.50 ultimate édition, so in fact, the answer is yes, i can compress :) ?
Only if you purchased commpression separately or also have the IWA. If you do, then yes you can compress. Art Art S.
