Hi, I am plannning to install a new server running Informix Dynamic Server Workgroup Edition. This server must be able to support 80 users in a client-server environment. The application (VB) is running on PC Client or on a NT Terminal Server for thin client. Database information: 300 tables 3 Gb Hardware: IBM RS/6000 - Model F50 with dual processors 512mb RAM 1 x 4.5 gb internal drive 2 x 9 gb internal drives OS: AIX 4.3.2 Database server: Informix IDS Workgroup Edition 7.30.UC8 My first idea is to install the OS on the 4.5 gb drive, swap space, ... IDS will be installed on this 4.5 drive also. The two 9gb drive will be used only by the Informix database (chunks and dbspaces). Does anybody have an idea of the best organisation I can choose on the hard drive ? Do I need stripping, or mirroring somewhere ? Any comments about this configuration ? Thank you very much for you advice. Philippe Fornaciari Summit Technologies International p.fornaciari@summittechnologies.com

Well you cannot effectively stripe two drives so I would suggest using Informix mirror to mirror chunks on one 9GB drive to the other. Read the Informix Administration Guide and Performance Guides with an eye to their recommendations on disk layout and performance. If the 4.5GB drive will not be too busy consider placing your physical and logical logs there. though it would be better if you could mirror the logs also. Art S. Kagel
