Backup Of Specific Tables

Hello All, Wondering if there is a way to script a backup operation for specific tables as opposed to an entire database? Our scenario involves backups being written to a tape drive. We would wish to backup a couple of tables to tape and then restore if a job to update said tables fails. Is this possible, and how ? Also, is it faster to write/restore backups to a disk array as opposed to tape? Thanks in advance for your help. B.

There is no way to backup specific tables per se. You could run an SQL
unload statement and write directly to the tape device. Thinking
laterally you could place the target tables in their own dbspace,
backup using onbar and then restore that space (but would also restore
any other tables in that space). The single table restore feature in
the later engine versions could also be an option.
I would be asking what is this job that updates the tables, how could
it fail and why does the application not handle such a failure
gracefully and rollback to a known and stable position.

We do this every day for a particular set of tables.
Basicallly, in the cron job script, (1) use dbschema to backup the tables
schema, (2) use unload for each table to backup the data..
If some thing happened, you can load from ... insert into ... fast.
