Upgrade from 5.03 on AIX

Folks, Can anybody give me a warm fuzzy feeling about any of the later 5.xx.xx engine products running on IBM RS6000 machines under AIX 3.25? We are currently running 5.03.UC2 and would like to upgrade to something a bit less buggy and more stable. I am particularly concerned with tbtape bugs as I do want to be able to recover the database. 7 versions are not an option right now, but will be in the not too distant future. Thanks!
