RE: Restoring a level-1 backup at a later date?

Not really.
With ON-Bar the primary source of information about restorable objects
is indeed the ixbar-file. (A secondary source, but only used for log
files,
is the storage manager itself.)
The basic assumption is, that you want to restore objects that are
available at the time of the restore. Thus ON-Bar will scan the ixbar-file
and figure out, which objects are the newest and which objects are
necessary for a complete restore. Then those objects will be restored.
Generally, the concept is not about restoring things that will be backed
up
sometime in the future. (Normally you don't build something today that
will be invented and designed next year.) The process is called
"re-"store,
i.e. you re-build something that has been there in the past (but now is
gone
for whatever reason). And in this sense, the re-store and archive process
is very well meaningful. "Up to date" obviously is a date in the past, not
in the future. If it would be in the future, then we might call it
"pre-"store
(rather than "re-"store).
ontape is a different story because you can let it hang around at your
peril as long as you want ...
Now, I'm not sure whether in your version there's
"RESTARTABLE_RESTORE" (a parameter in $ONCONFIG file)
supported. You have to check yourself.
With this supported and enabled, it would be a possibility to manually
interrupt the restore right after the physical restore of the level-0
objects
has completed (and before it enters the logical restore phase). And then
continue the restore later on. I'm not sure whether it would then pick up
new objects (as you would have updated the ixbar-file to contain the
new level-1 objects in the meantime). You would have to try this ...
Needless to say, that this is not really a supported method for restore.

Martin
