need functions for converting DATE

Does anyone have functions (in C) for converting a Informix DATE (Julian format?) to a string (using DBDATE) and vice versa? Half-baked solutions OK as well. No, I can not use rfmtdate()/redefmtdate(), I can't depend on Informix libraries in this case.
