Hi, we have a problem with the table and row names. We instructed our software house to port an application which originally runs with Oracle or Paradox to Informix, because we use Informix since years and all our applications run with Informix. We actually use IDS 7.31UC2. The problem is: the new application uses table and row names which are longer than 18 characters. Because of compatibility the software house refuses to change table and row names. The software is _not_ specially developed for our enterprise but a software for special trade. My questions: Is there any workaround possible with this version of IDS. Another idea: Our software house told us that IDS2000 supports 128 or more character names. - Is it possible to update from IDS7.31UC2 to IDS2000. - Is a port of IDS2000 available for Reliant Unix 5.43C4001 on Siemens (SNI) RM600. - Is a port of IDS2000 available for Linux The problem arose quite suddenly and is really urgent for us. Any help will be appreciated. Reinhard

Yes it does and 32 character usernames to boot. > - Is it possible to update from IDS7.31UC2 to IDS2000. Informix is offering to upgrade from IDS7.xx to IDS.2000 as a version upgrade (ie: free if you have support) until the end of August 2000. After that it will be a product upgrade and you will have to pay the difference in your original cost and the price of the IDS.2000 at that time. > - Is a port of IDS2000 available for Reliant Unix 5.43C4001 on > Siemens (SNI) RM600. I do not know. Ask Informix customer service. > - Is a port of IDS2000 available for Linux Yes. Someone posted the download address yesterday to CDI. You should be able to find it on the IntraWare site. > The problem arose quite suddenly and is really urgent > for us. Any help will be appreciated. > > Reinhard Art S. Kagel
