onbar question

Hi all, I just migrate my backup tool from ontape to onbar. With my ontape configuration I have my LTAPEDEV set to /dev/null. To have the same thing with onbar I have to use the -w option with onbar, because the serial backup of dbspaces don't need logical recovery. My question is why with parallel-backup we need the logical logs and not with the serial one ??
