Informix, Siemens Nixdorf to Build Performance Testing Lab Lab to Maximize Performance on Informix's New Parallel Processing Database Server MENLO PARK, Calif., (January 4, 1994) -- Informix Software, Inc. and Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme (SNI) AG today announced an agreement to jointly build and staff a research and development laboratory at Informix's Menlo Park headquarters. The lab will maximize the overall speed and optimization of INFORMIX(R)-OnLine Dynamic Server, Informix's new next-generation parallel processing database server on Siemens Nixdorf's high-end SINIX Computing System RM600. Other cooperative projects will include joint development, quality assurance and performance testing. "This agreement substantially strengthens the relationship between Informix and Siemens Nixdorf and further establishes both companies as performance leaders in the high-end, business-critical database market," said Phil White, chairman and CEO at Informix. "Our agreement today strengthens the already 10 year-old partnership between Informix and SNI and signifies our continuing commitment to provide high efficiency OLTP systems to our mutual customer base, today and into the future,"said Dr. Hans-Thilo Krueger, executive director of Network and Database Systems Division at SNI. INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server 6.0 is a multithreaded database server which incorporates the company's first implementation of its new parallel processing database technology-the Informix Dynamic Scalable Architecture(TM) (DSA(TM)). Dynamic Server is designed to address the growing needs of customers who must manage larger, more complex business-critical databases while improving overall system performance and scalability. The product supports Informix's entire line of SQL-based application development tools, a large number of third-party tools, and runs on a wide range of UNIX-based computer systems in stand-alone or networked environments. SNI's RM400 and RM600 series, based on MIPS/RISC technology, ranges from workstations to high-end multiprocessor systems with mainframe-class power. Today nearly 50,000 copies of Informix database servers are installed on SNI's SINIX systems.
