HPL Hangs...

Ok - this tool can be one of the most frustrating tools to use. Nice
when it works, but a pain to get working.
Is there anyway to get more visibility it what the issue is when it hangs? The
point it typically hangs for me is just before it shows any processed records.
onstat -j fails to connect to the job.
I have written conversion functions that do work for other table loads.
However, HPL still hangs for some table loads without giving any type of
reason as to why.
When it does, I need to kill the process, exit out of IPLoad, and on some
occasions onmode -z the session.
We are running IDS v9.40.UC3
Thanks.
Are you resetting the processing flags within the onpload database when you
kill something?

David,
from your other post I assume you are on AIX? By any chance, do you have
a multiprocessor machine with Power4 CPU's? If so, you might run into a
known issue with Power4 architecture which impacts HPL.
The AIX command prtconf should tell which kind of CPU's you have ...
onstat -j needs the SHMBASE address of the onpload job to connect. Sothe best way to deal with that would be to run it against the onpload
log file. By default, if I remember it correctly, it is the name of the
job in /tmp. So when it hangs run for example:
onstat -j /tmp/myjob.log
Now you would come into an "onstat2 interactive mode. Please run a jpa
command and check the output for for this line "spin lock control
initialze". It should show a non zero value (4096?). If you see a 0 and
you are on Power4 you might running into Bug 161641.
What is the value of MULTIPROCESSOR in your $ONCONFIG file? If it is set
to 0 change it to 1, make sure $ONCONFIG is set in your HPL environment
and run your jobs again. This should workaround B#161641. You can also
upgrade to 9.40.UC4 which has the fix for this issue.
Hope this helps

... you hit a known problem. Switch to 9.40.UC4W4 and it
will work.
The Problem is between two Jobs where the new job is hitting the old one.
