This "limit" was only present on a few isolated machines (I only know of one for sure and have just heard rumors on a second) and it was an operating system limit, not an Informix-imposed limit. As far as OnLine is concerned, the limit on tape size is somewhere around 2 Terabytes. My understanding was the platform where the "limit" was known to manifest has an o/s patch available to fix it.
