7.11 on Solaris 2.4 talking to SunOs 4.1.4

hi,
does anyone out there have the configuration that i've stated in
the subject? i am having the following problem:
when i start isql and do a Database and then Select, that isql process
will hang until one of two things, i) i cntrl-\\ out of the process, (cntrl-c
doesn't work), or ii) i start another isql process, (or dbaccess on the
server), and do a Database and then Select. the second that i hit Select in
the second process, instantaneously my list of databases appears in the first
process. from then on i can do everything in the first process except,
i) another Database Select, or ii) exit the application. it hangs at either
of these two points.
informix tech support is stumped, and i'm not doing well with sun
support either. both are vague. informix is saying to find patches that
relate to this, but that is a lot of work. there are a lot of patches out
there that relate to sockets, ports, or NIS stuff in general.
if someone has had this problem, can you please let me know how it
was solved? if anyone has this same configuration, whether you have seen the
problem or not, can you post your .snfile from the server and the client, if
you have the software installed there, and the output of a "showrev -p" on
the solaris server?
any thoughts/comments/suggestions are welcome, i'm stumped, and so are
they...
thanks
