Informix Storage Manager ISM

Recently I was speaking with some one from IBM who mentioned that ISM (aka Legato Lite) will be removed from IDS sometime in the future. Does anyone know when and what IBM plans on replacing it with? Thanks Peter

Hi, problem with ISM mainly is the limitations and the complicated handling/setup/configuration. Therefore there has been (wishful) thinking about getting rid of it ... since quite some time now. There are some ideas as to with what to replace it, but so far these are just that - rather vague ideas. The goal would be to overcome the said limitations and make it simpler to handle/.../... Since these are only vague ideas so far, and also currently I do not see this moving forward a lot in the near future, ISM is there to stay for the foreseeable time. In addition you can rest assured that ISM will not be "removed" before there is a suitable replacement for it and an also suitable time has passed to allow customers to migrate from ISM to a new SM (bundled with IDS).
