One more bit of the jigsaw here - if we move the culprit library into the local directory to the runnable program and link it in, we don't get the coredumping. (Note this is NOT an option for the system as a whole! It was just tried as a what-if. We have nicely segregated libs and it ain't gonna change just because the debugger complains.)
